Open Floor Plan in Midcentury Split-Level Home

Not every floor-plan should be open. But when walls lead to keeping family members apart who have little time together to begin with, I am all for opening a space. Here the walls containing the kitchen were removed and the dining room was transformed into a breakfast nook with a long floating bench. We added a fire place, which was designed in the same language as the bench to connect all areas of this level to a whole.
