Accent Walls

I like accent walls! Their task is to create a focal point in a room, to guide the visitors eye.

In addition they provide its inhabitants with an opportunity to display what they particularly like.

Most of the times we create accent walls by painting them in a color different.

But there are so many more ways to utilize this wall space and make it spectacular, worthy of our attention.

The photo below, found in the NY Times Style Magazine of last September, shows an interesting alternative.

This wall was covered with a giant map. Then a regular wooden grid was placed on top of it to divide the print into same-size pieces of art.

By doing so the designer (Ben Pentreath) elevates a grayish, almost monochrome wall to an artful collage, some that requires and deserves our attention.

What are you particularly fond of? It could be a bright color you want to apply selectively. Or maybe an aerial shot your favorite place on earth.

Pick a wall and create that accent in your home. It will make you happy, while telling us visitors a bit more about you.
