World Women’s Day

By March 8, 2015Blog

Yesterday was not just an ordinary Sunday, but rather carried a lot of meaning:

We switched over to Daylight Saving Time and with that comes the promise of spring and the end of snow. We are so ready!

It was also World Women’s Day. There are countless women of great significance to commemorate and celebrate in all of our lives, such as our mothers and grandmothers, but I want to focus on the great women in design and the arts. For many centuries the only role available to them was that of the muse, or perhaps as an influence to their famous husbands. Luckily, they could eventually claim their own genius and take center stage. Today, female architects like Zaha Hadid, are realizing major projects and continue to inspire us.

Yesterday was also the opening day of the Björk show at the MOMA. You have to go and see it, I can’t wait to see it myself. While best known for her music, Björk presents her songs in context. She is a conceptual artist, who makes us feel her message with all our senses! A truly great experience. I am sure she will inspire many young artists and I look forward to hearing, seeing, sensing their future work.

Here is a link to my favorite Björk song:
