Mid Century Design is still enjoying a high in the design community. But lately it has been receiving attention for a different reason. Japanese designers and architects have had a strong influence on this movement, yet — though — in spite of their internment in the 40ies. Isamu Noguchi was one of the main drivers of Mid Century Design here in the states. The picture shows one of his icon designs, a coffee table often referred to as “THE Noguchi” table. I encourage you to visit his museum in Queens (9-01 33rd Rd, Queens, NY 11106). Besides honoring Noguchi’s contribution to modern design, you get a strong feeling of the clarity & calm his design brings to a space. xo Martina
